The Ohio Utility Rate Survey conducted by the Rates & Analysis staff at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) provides an overview and comparison of electric, telephone, and natural gas utility rates in cities across Ohio. The upshot of the study is that affected individuals and businesses saw electric bill costs go down in 2017 while the gas bill prices have risen.
For electricity and natural gas purposes, the survey separated non-shopping customers into three distinct categories based on utility rate schedules. Customers were sorted according to the criteria below:
- Residential Customers: Based on 750 kWh and 10 MCF per year
- Commercial Customers: Based on 300,000 kWh and 46 MCF per year
- Industrial Customers: Based on 6,000,000 kWh and 350 MCF per year
All customers experienced a decrease in average electricity rates and an increase in average natural gas rates across Ohio between February 2016 and February 2017.
